Prohibition of murder

📘 READING

"You shall not murder."
- Shemot (Exodus) 20:13

🟫 MITZVOT FOCUS

Today we focus on the most fundamental prohibition in the Torah: the taking of an innocent life. This mitzvah teaches us that human life is not ours to take, as every person is created in the Image of Elohim. To take a life is the ultimate act of rebellion against the Creator who breathed that life into existence. It is the absolute violation of justice and the sanctity of the community.

🩵 REFLECTION

The command "You shall not murder" is the cornerstone of a society that fears YHVH. As we move closer to the season of Pesach, we are reminded that Yisra'el was preserved while the shadow of death passed over Mitsrayim. Life is a gift held in trust from the Father. While most of us will never commit the physical act of murder, we must also guard our hearts against the hatred and unchecked anger that lead to the devaluation of our neighbor.

True righteousness requires us not only to refrain from violence but to actively cultivate a heart that honors the life and dignity of every individual as a gift from the Creator.

👐 PRAYER

Abba YHVH, we thank You for the breath of life You have given us today. We ask that You place within us a deep and abiding respect for the sanctity of every human life. Guard our hearts from malice and our hands from violence. May we walk in Your Truth, honoring the Image of Elohim in every person we meet, and acting as preservers of peace in a world that so often devalues life.

Baruch YHVH.
