Holiness through restraint
"For Elohim did not call us to uncleanness, but in set-apartness."
- Tas'loniqim Aleph (1 Thessalonians) 4:7
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustworthiness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no Torah."
- Galatiyim (Galatians) 5:22-23
"Better is he who is slow to anger than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city."
- Mishlei (Proverbs) 16:32
"I have made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I gaze upon a maiden?"
- Iyob (Job) 31:1
Holiness is not achieved through grand actions alone, but through consistent restraint in daily life. The ability to govern desires, control reactions, and remain steady in moments of testing forms the foundation of righteous character.
Restraint protects the heart from impulsive choices that lead to regret. It strengthens discipline and builds wisdom, allowing a person to walk in obedience even when emotions rise strongly. Through restraint, believers demonstrate reverence for YHVH and respect for the boundaries He has established.
Practicing restraint daily shapes a life that reflects stability, maturity, and trustworthiness.
Moments of testing often arrive unexpectedly - through words spoken in haste, desires that seek immediate satisfaction, or emotions that press for reaction. In such moments, restraint becomes an act of strength rather than weakness.
Consider the areas of life where patience is most needed. Reflect on how self-control can transform difficult situations into opportunities for growth. Each time restraint is chosen over impulse, character is strengthened and wisdom deepened.
Holiness grows quietly through disciplined choices that honour YHVH.
Twenty-five days have been counted. We're almost halfway through the fourth week. Each additional day reinforces stability and builds lasting endurance.
The longer we carry on in our commitments and habits, the more reinforced they become.
YHVH, Elohim of holiness, teach us to walk with restraint and wisdom. Help us to govern our thoughts, our emotions, and our actions according to Your will. Strengthen us to pause before reacting, to choose righteousness over impulse, and to honour the boundaries You have established. Fill us with patience and self-control, so that our lives may reflect Your holiness and bring honour to Your Name.
Baruch YHVH.
Shalom until tomorrow.
