Transmission of Instruction
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. And you shall impress them upon your children, and shall speak of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.”

YHVH's Torah places a responsibility upon each generation to preserve and transmit His instruction. His Word was not given merely for individuals to receive privately and then keep to themselves. Parents and communities were commanded to teach the next generation so that knowledge of YHVH and His ways would not be forgotten.
Devarim connects instruction with everyday life. Teaching was to take place while sitting in the house, walking along the way, lying down and rising up. This shows that the transmission of Torah was intended to be continuous rather than limited to a formal lesson or occasional gathering.
The Renewed Covenant likewise emphasises the responsibility to pass faithful instruction from one generation to another. What has been received must be entrusted to trustworthy people who are capable of teaching others. Instruction therefore carries both a privilege and a responsibility: we must receive truth faithfully, practise it ourselves and transmit it without deliberately distorting what we have been taught.
Every generation inherits something from those who came before it. The question is not simply whether we received instruction, but whether what we received will remain faithful when we pass it on.
Transmission of instruction requires more than repeating words. Our lives also teach. Children, families, students and communities observe what we practise, what we prioritise and whether our actions agree with the instruction we claim to believe.
May we therefore take seriously what we are teaching through both our words and our example. May we preserve the truth we have received, correct what has been distorted, and faithfully pass on what is righteous to those who come after us.
Let us not become a generation that merely receives knowledge and then allows it to disappear. May we become trustworthy stewards of YHVH's instruction, living it faithfully and equipping others to teach it in their turn.
Heavenly Father, YHVH, thank You for giving us Your instruction and for preserving Your Word through the generations. Help us to receive Your Torah with humility, understand it with wisdom and practise it faithfully.
Teach us to recognise our responsibility to those who come after us. Give parents, teachers, elders and all who instruct others patience, discernment and faithfulness. Help us to teach not only with our words but also through lives that demonstrate obedience to You.
Keep us from passing on error, distortion or traditions that contradict Your truth. Give us courage to correct what has been misunderstood and humility to learn where we ourselves have been mistaken.
Help us to entrust Your instruction to trustworthy people who will preserve it faithfully and teach others in their turn. May every generation receive the knowledge of Your ways and carry it forward without forgetting what You have commanded.
May our words, actions and example point others toward YHVH and strengthen faithfulness among those who come after us.
