Consequences of False Testimony
“A false witness shall not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies shall perish.”

YHVH's Torah treats false testimony as a serious offence because it strikes at the heart of justice. A dishonest witness can rob an innocent person of freedom, reputation, possessions, or even life. For this reason, the Torah requires that anyone who deliberately gives false testimony should bear the very consequence that was intended for the accused.
This principle reveals YHVH's commitment to justice, fairness, and truth. His people are called to reject deception in every form and to uphold integrity in both public and private life. Speaking truthfully is not merely a moral virtue - it is an act of covenant faithfulness that reflects the character of Elohim.
False testimony does not only harm another person; it also damages the one who speaks it. Lies weaken trust, divide communities, and harden the heart. Truth, by contrast, builds confidence, restores relationships, and honours YHVH.
Each day presents opportunities to choose between truth and falsehood. May we become known as people whose words can be trusted, whose testimony is reliable, and whose lives consistently reflect the righteousness of our heavenly Father.
Heavenly Father, YHVH, keep us from every form of falsehood and deceit. Fill our hearts with a deep love for truth and righteousness. Give us wisdom to speak carefully, courage to stand for what is right, and integrity to remain faithful even when honesty comes at a cost. May our words and our testimony always bring honour to Your holy Name and strengthen those around us.
