The renewed moon has now been confirmed. Today marks the beginning of Chamishi 1, 6028 AA. May YHVH bless this new month and strengthen us to walk faithfully in His appointed times as we continue to seek Him with obedient hearts.
Prohibition of Accepting Ransom for a Murderer
“You shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death, but he shall surely be put to death.”
- Bemidbar (Numbers) 35:31
“You shall not pollute the land in which you are, for blood defiles the land; and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it.”
- Bemidbar (Numbers) 35:33
“Divers weights are an abomination to YHVH, and dishonest scales are not good.”
- Mishlei (Proverbs) 20:23
YHVH forbade the acceptance of a ransom to spare a person guilty of deliberate murder. Justice could not be purchased, negotiated or influenced by wealth, status or personal favour. The sanctity of human life required that judgment remain impartial, preserving both righteousness and the holiness of the land.
This command reminds us that YHVH's justice is never for sale. His standards do not change according to influence or power. As His people, we are called to uphold integrity, reject corruption and remain faithful to truth, even when doing so requires personal courage.
Modern society often measures justice by influence, popularity or financial power. YHVH calls us to a higher standard where truth outweighs personal gain and righteousness is never compromised for convenience.
May we guard our hearts against every form of compromise. As we choose honesty, integrity and faithfulness in both great and small matters, we become living witnesses of the righteous Kingdom that YHVH is establishing.
Heavenly Father, YHVH, thank You for revealing justice that cannot be bought or corrupted. Strengthen us to reject every form of dishonesty, favouritism and compromise. Fill us with courage to stand for truth, wisdom to judge rightly and integrity that honours Your holy Name. May our lives reflect the righteousness of Your Kingdom and inspire others to seek Your perfect ways.
