Beginning today, the blessings traditionally delivered as audio messages will now be included directly in the written Davar Lechem. This makes each message complete in text and allows everyone to receive the full blessing without needing to listen to an audio recording. The same change will apply to the Shema and Havdalah Blessing where appropriate. The Afrikaans version will also be completely in Afrikaans.
Communal Responsibility for Life
“You shall not stand idly by while your neighbour's blood is shed. I am YHVH.”

YHVH teaches that the preservation of life is not merely a personal responsibility but a communal one. His Torah commands us not to stand idly by when another person's life is threatened and even requires practical measures to prevent foreseeable harm. Righteousness therefore includes taking responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of those around us.
This mitzvah reminds us that living in covenant community means recognising that our choices can affect others. We are called to remove unnecessary dangers, respond when someone is at risk and use wisdom to protect life wherever we have the ability to do so.
It is easy to think that responsibility ends where our personal interests begin. YHVH teaches us otherwise. His people are called to look beyond themselves and recognise the needs, safety and wellbeing of those around them.
May we become people who notice danger before it becomes tragedy, offer help before suffering deepens and take responsibility rather than assuming someone else will act. When we care for one another in practical ways, we demonstrate the righteousness, mercy and love of YHVH.
Heavenly Father, YHVH, thank You for teaching us to value and protect human life. Give us wisdom to recognise dangers, compassion to notice those in need and courage to take responsible action when someone's wellbeing is at risk. Help us to consider how our choices affect others and to build communities marked by care, justice and mutual responsibility. May our lives honour Your holy Name by faithfully protecting and serving those around us.
