Warning Witnesses Before Testimony
“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.”
- Matthew 18:15
“Do not receive an accusation against an elder except from two or three witnesses.”
- 1 Timothy 5:19
“One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established.”
- Deuteronomy 19:15
YHVH's Torah establishes that testimony is sacred. A witness bears a solemn responsibility before Elohim, and accusations must never be made carelessly or without proper evidence. Before testimony is presented publicly, those involved should first be warned, confronted righteously where appropriate, and given an opportunity to respond. This protects both justice and mercy.
Messiah reaffirmed this principle by instructing His followers to seek reconciliation privately before taking a matter before others. Truth is not served by haste, gossip, or partiality. Faithful witnesses pursue restoration where possible while remaining committed to righteousness and justice.
Every word we speak about another person carries weight. Before repeating an accusation or becoming a witness in any matter, we should ask whether we have followed YHVH's order, sought the truth diligently, and acted with love as well as integrity.
Being a faithful witness is not only about speaking truth - it is about speaking truth in the right way, at the right time, and for the right purpose. In doing so, we reflect the righteous character of our heavenly Father.
Heavenly Father, YHVH, teach us to guard our tongues and to honour Your standards of justice. Give us wisdom to seek truth carefully, courage to confront sin with humility, and compassion to pursue reconciliation whenever possible. May we never bear false witness nor spread unfounded accusations, but always walk in integrity as faithful servants of Your Kingdom. Strengthen us to uphold both justice and mercy in all that we say and do.
