Prohibition of perverting judgment
“You do not pervert the right-ruling of your poor in his dispute.”
- Shemoth (Exodus) 23:6
“He has declared to you, O man, what is good. And what does YHVH require of you but to do right-ruling, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your Elohim?”
- Miḵah (Micah) 6:8
YHVH commands His people not to distort justice through dishonesty, favoritism, corruption, emotional bias, or personal gain. Judgment must remain anchored in truth and righteousness regardless of social standing, influence, wealth, or outward appearance.
Perverted judgment damages individuals, communities, and trust within society. The people of YHVH are called to uphold integrity and fairness in leadership, family matters, business dealings, assemblies, and daily interactions.
Righteous judgment reflects the character of YHVH, who judges with truth, wisdom, and perfect justice.
Human nature often seeks advantage, self-protection, or acceptance. These pressures can quietly influence decisions, opinions, and judgments without a person even realizing it. Scripture repeatedly warns against allowing emotions, fear, popularity, or selfish interests to corrupt justice. True righteousness requires humility and discernment. A person who fears YHVH learns to seek truth carefully rather than reacting impulsively or following public opinion.
Consider whether your judgments are shaped by truth and righteousness or by personal feelings, assumptions, relationships, or external pressure. Integrity before YHVH requires consistency even when fairness becomes difficult or costly.
Abba YHVH, teach us to walk in righteousness, integrity, and truth. Guard our hearts from corruption, favoritism, selfish ambition, and emotional bias. Help us to judge fairly, speak honestly, and act with wisdom in every circumstance. Strengthen us to uphold justice even when pressured by fear, relationships, public opinion, or personal comfort. Let our lives reflect Your righteousness and bring honor to Your Name.
