Prohibition of bearing false witness
“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.”

YHVH commands His people to reject false testimony in all forms. Bearing false witness includes spoken lies, distorted reports, misleading impressions, selective truth, and any communication that misrepresents reality or harms another unjustly.
Truthfulness is foundational to justice. When testimony is corrupted, justice collapses and trust within the community is damaged. The people of YHVH are called to guard their words carefully, ensuring that what they communicate reflects accuracy, integrity, and righteousness.
False witness is not limited to formal courtroom settings. It also appears in everyday speech, assumptions, social narratives, and informal judgments about others. Even subtle distortion of truth can lead to serious harm. The responsibility of truth requires discipline of speech and clarity of intention. A righteous person learns to pause before speaking, verify before repeating, and consider the impact of words before releasing them.
In a world where misinformation spreads easily, commitment to truth becomes a defining mark of faithfulness to YHVH.
Abba YHVH, establish truth within our hearts and guard our lips from falsehood. Help us to speak with honesty, accuracy, and integrity in every situation. Remove from us the desire to distort, exaggerate, or misrepresent. Teach us to value truth even when it is costly, inconvenient, or contrary to pressure around us. Let our words reflect righteousness and bring healing rather than harm.
