📘 READING

- Mishle (Proverbs) 24:3-4

“Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.”
- Mishle (Proverbs) 16:8

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. And you shall impress them upon your children, and shall speak of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.”
- Devarim (Deuteronomy) 6:6-7

🟫 MITSVOT FOCUS

A stable home is not established merely by having a house, possessions or financial resources. Scripture connects the stability of a household with wisdom, understanding, righteousness and faithful instruction.

Yesterday we considered faithfulness within covenant. Today we build on that foundation by considering justice within the home. Justice means that each person is treated with dignity, honesty, fairness and appropriate responsibility.

Mishle teaches that a house is built through wisdom and established through understanding. This applies not only to physical construction but also to the relationships that make a household stable. A home becomes strong when its members practise truthfulness, self-control, responsibility, compassion and respect.

Devarim 6:6-7 places instruction within the daily life of the household. Parents have a responsibility to teach their children the ways of YHVH, not merely through formal lessons but through everyday words and example.

Justice within the home also requires righteous use of authority. Leadership is never a licence for domination, cruelty or exploitation. Authority carries responsibility to protect, provide, correct appropriately and seek the wellbeing of those entrusted to one's care.

🩵 REFLECTION

The stability of a home is revealed by how its members treat one another when there is disagreement, pressure or difficulty. A household built on justice does not depend upon fear to maintain order. It develops trust through consistency, truthful communication and responsible conduct.

A stable home does not mean a home without problems. It means a household where problems can be addressed without abandoning righteousness. Mistakes can be acknowledged, correction can be given appropriately, forgiveness can be sought and necessary boundaries can be maintained.

Parents have a particularly important role in establishing this environment. Children learn not only from what they are told but from what they see. When adults practise honesty, fairness, patience and self-control, they demonstrate the principles they are teaching.

Justice also means that no member of a household should be treated as less valuable or less worthy of dignity. Strength, authority or financial provision must never become excuses for intimidation, manipulation or abuse.

A home becomes more stable when every person understands both their responsibilities and their worth. When covenant faithfulness, justice and wisdom work together, the household becomes a place where people can grow, learn, serve one another and prepare future generations to walk faithfully before YHVH.

👐 PRAYER

Heavenly Father, YHVH, thank You for the gift of family and for the responsibility of building our homes according to Your wisdom and righteousness. Teach us to establish our households upon truth, justice, faithfulness and understanding.

Give parents wisdom to teach their children Your ways through both instruction and example. Help them to correct with patience and righteousness, without cruelty, humiliation or violence.

Strengthen husbands and wives to treat one another with dignity, honesty, loyalty and respect. Help every member of the household to understand their responsibilities and to fulfil them faithfully.

Protect homes from injustice, intimidation, manipulation, neglect and abuse. Give courage and wisdom where boundaries must be established, and protect those who are vulnerable.

Provide for families who are struggling with financial pressure, conflict or uncertainty. Give them practical wisdom, patience and righteous support so that their homes may become places of peace and stability.

Help us to build homes that honour You, strengthen families and provide a faithful foundation for future generations. May our households reflect Your justice and become places where Your instruction is lived out every day.

Baruch YHVH. Emet.
